Our Founder’s Story
Kristen Nunery’s journey began the night her childhood home burned to the ground. The aftermath was worse. It led to years of battling with an insurance company that should have been there to help.
In the ashes, a broken system was exposed. One that confuses, delays, and abandons people when they need protection most. That moment became Kristen’s fuel to change the industry.
She founded myCOI to help businesses protect themselves from the same hidden risks her family once faced. Over 15 years, myCOI became the industry standard for insurance compliance—servicing millions of contracts, supporting 750K+ third-party partners, and reviewing more than 45M insurance documents. But, even with experts, the process was still slow, manual, and full of friction.
So Kristen built illumend to disrupt it entirely.
